Specialized Medical Evaluation and Treatment

Children who may be victims of abuse need medical attention from personnel with specialized skills and the ability to provide appropriate care.  Children's advocacy centers provide these services either on-site, or through affiliation with local hospitals or other facilities.  Utilizing personnel with specialized medical training can help children in untold ways - in addition to the obvious benefits, there is the ancillary benefit that children learn early the helping role of doctors and nurses, and may disclose information to medical personnel that they might not share with investigators.  Children's advocacy centers play an important role in training medical professionals in how to handle this information appropriately.
