On Monday, April 19th, 2010, the Victim Services Unit of the Aurora Police Department will sponsor a Victim Remembrance Ceremony to honor those who have been victims of crimes. The Victim Remembrance Ceremony occurs on the first day of Crime Victims’ Rights Week. The Ceremony will take place at 12:00 p.m. in the Aurora City Council Chambers of the Aurora Municipal Building, located at 15151 E. Alameda Parkway, Aurora, Colorado.

National Crime Victim’s Rights Week occurs annually in April to honor crime victims’ rights and those who advocate on their behalf. This will be the sixth year that the Victim Services Unit of the Aurora Police Department has led these community observance events. These events are held in conjunction with National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Recognized every April since 1983, National Child Abuse Prevention Month is a time for our society to focus on the issue of child abuse and the many innovative ways local communities are responding through intervention and prevention methods.

The Aurora Police Department, along with SungateKids, The Arc of Aurora, arc Thrift Stores and the Colorado Community College System at Lowry are also working together to host a conference focusing on working with crime victims with developmental disabilities.

“SungateKids is proud to be a part of this community-wide effort to recognize and honor those who have been victimized, and to work toward a future where our communities are safer and more responsive,” says Diana Goldberg, Executive Director of SungateKids.
