Executive Director

POSITION DESCRIPTION The Executive Director is employed by and responsible to the Board of Directors for implementation of the overall mission, policies and programs of SafeSpot Children’s Advocacy Center of Fairfax County, VA, a large, diverse community in the DC metro area.  It provides specialized services to child victims of abuse and their families.  Areas of  responsibility include agency administration, financial mangement, program development, oversight and evaluation,  development of policies and procedures, personnel management, as well as public and community relations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESAgency Administration

  • Administration of SafeSpot CAC and its activities, according to established policies and procedures
  • Make recommendations to the Board with regard to policy changes
  • Perform such other duties as requested by the Board of Directors

Financial Management

  • Prepare and direct the annual operational budget; monitor and report changes to the Board
  • Work with the Board Finance Committee on the financial operations of the CAC
  • Develop funding sources from federal, state and community grant opportunities, including writing grant proposals;  administer and comply with all grant requirements
  • Responsible for the expenditure and reporting of all grant funds
  • Assist the Board in seeking and developing additional funding sources from businesses, organizations and individuals

Programs Multidisciplinary Team Involvement:

  • Schedule, coordinate, organize and facilitate multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings
  • Continually work to develop strong, collaborative relationships among members of the MDT to facilitate and enhance the services received by victims
  • Participate as a member of the MDT and facilitate their growth and development
  • Train team members to use the MDT process for investigating and prosecuting cases to ensure the best outcome for children and their families
  • Provide oversight for maintaining the case database, ensuring accurate tracking of each case through the investigation, prosecution and mental health phases
  • Provide statistical reports to national and state agencies as required
  • Review and update Memorandum of Understanding with MDT members biannually

Program Development and Evaluation:

  • Work with the Board of Directors to develop and prioritize specific, written short- and long-range plans for SafeSpot programs and services
  • Work with the Board to achieve NCA accreditation
  • Stay abreast of current local, state and national issues important to the development of effective programs and services
  • Provide to the Board an annual evaluation of all programs and implement requested/needed changes and improvements as identified

Personnel

  • Hire, direct, supervise and terminate personnel in the performance of their duties and conduct regular performance evaluations
  • Provide overall control and direction to personnel in accordance with SafeSpot personnel policies

Board Relations

  • Maintain an appropriate working relationship with the Board and its committees
  • Report center activities and finances to the Board on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
  • Provide professional assistance to the Board and committees as requested

Public and Community Relations

  • Serve as the professional representative of SafeSpot Children’s Advocacy Center
  • Provide information to the community regarding the mission and activities of the agency
  • Maintain positive and appropriate relations with other professional and social services groups in the community

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years experience in social services or related field, including two years management experience
  • Experience managing a nonprofit is helpful, with preference given to candidates who have experience working within a children’s advocacy center or a mental health program
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; computer skills essential; experience in public relations
  • Knowledge of fundraising and grant writing helpful
  • Knowledge of pertinent laws and regulations
  • Bilingual ability is desirable
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work without direct supervision and possess the ability to establish and maintain favorable working relationships with the Board of Directors, community groups, associates, staff and general public
  • Must pass a nationwide criminal history check, child abuse registry background check, as well as initial and random drug screenings

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Schedule is based on the needs of clients; flexibility is required
  • Some evenings and weekends required
  • This position is a full-time exempt, salaried position.  Salary commensurate with education and related experience.
