Family Support Advocate/Forensic Interviewer

POSITION TITLE:   Family Support Advocate/Forensic Interviewer SUPERVISED BY:  Director of Forensic Services BASIC FUNCTION:  The Family Support Advocate/Forensic Interviewer (75% / 25%) is responsible for providing support, information, and community resources for children and their families who must participate in an investigation of child abuse or child witness to a crime.  The Family Support Advocate/Forensic Interviewer is also responsible for conducting forensic interviews with child victims of abuse in separate designated cases of criminal child abuse. REQUIREMENTS:1.    Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or Criminal Justice plus professional experience in a related field.2.    Highly motivated, possessing organization skills with attention to details, and ability to handle multiple responsibilities effectively and with discretion. 3.    Independent worker and able to function as a team player with initiative and flexibility.4.    Knowledge of child abuse system and the dynamics of child abuse.5.    Effective people and communication skills.6.    Computer literate.7.    Willingness to attend related training in child abuse and victim advocacy.PREFERENCES:1.    Fluency in Spanish 2.    Experience interviewing childrenPROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:As Family Support Advocate (75% of effort)1.    Provide crisis support to children and their families who visit Safe Passage. 2.    Provide system education, community resources and referrals, and on-going advocacy to non-offending caregivers.3.    Participate in team preparation for the interview process.4.    Provide resource referrals to children and their families and facilitate linkage when necessary.5.    Provide court preparation to children and parents.6.    Assist, when necessary, during medical exams as support for the child and non-offending parent.7.    Provide phone follow-up support for children and families.8.    Coordinate and provide extended crisis support for non-offending parents and victims.9.    Maintain case tracking to include filing decisions with the District Attorney’s office.10.    Track case developments for review at internal case review process.11.    Develop curriculum, coordinate and facilitate psycho-educational support groups.As Forensic Interviewer (25% of effort)1.    Conduct forensic interviews with child victims.2.    Participate and promote forensic interviewer peer review process.3.    Participate and promote case review process.   OTHER TASKS AS ASSIGNED
